Wildlife Tours in the Somerset Levels
Westhay is surrounded by interesting wildlife. Martin Sage is a voluntary warden for Natural England, RSPB and Somerset Wildlife Trust. Visitors to Sage Farm cottages are offered an introductory tour of the immediate area with advice on where to see species of interest at different times of the year.
Examples might include:
- Spring visits to Shapwick Heath to see passage waders, warblers, Hobbys and Otters.
- Visit to Tealham Moor to watch “roding” Snipe displays.
- Summer visits to the Polden Hills to see Large and Chalkhill Blue butterflies as well as other downland species.
- Autumn visits to see passage waders, possible Osprey and arriving ducks.
- Winter visits to see the Starling Roost.
